LAURA

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

LAURA is a digital exploration of identity through a series of unedited AI-generated images created by training an artificial intelligence model on my own likeness. In machine learning a LoRA, or low-rank adaptation, efficiently adapts large pre-trained models for new tasks or specific data. For this project, I created a LoRA trained on my own face (using Kohya_ss) and generated a series of images in Automatic 1111. By training the model on my own face, I sought to create a synthetic alter-ego that represents not just a static image of who I am, but a fragmented, evolving version—a doppelganger that iterates and shifts over time. LAURA exists in a space between real and imagined, static and fluid. Each generated image becomes a new version of me, constructed from the raw materials of my own features, but transformed by the AI’s dataset and bias. Below are a selection of a few images from the series.
